26 October 1939 – Karel Schoeman, well-known South African author and recipient of several awards, is born
27 October 1808 – Slave rebellion at the Cape led by Louis of Mauritius. Over 300 slaves and Khoi Khoi servants from outlying farms marched on Cape Town demanding their freedom

28 October 1997 – Forces loyal to Zambian president Frederick Chiluba quash a coup by a handful of disgruntled military officers, arresting nine men including the captain who said an angel told him to overthrow the government
29 October 1964 – The United Republic of Tanganyika, Zanzibar and Pemba changes its name to Tanzania
30 October 2002 – Beoremag bomb blasts rock Soweto and Bronkhorstspruit
31 October 1998 – The blue bulls rugby team won the South African Currie Cup at Loftus
1 November 1893 – The decisive Battle of Bembesi (Bembasi) is fought in the First Matabele War (Ndebele), Zimbabwe
