18 November 1932 – Amy Johnson lands in Cape Town, beating the existing record flight time from London by over ten hours

19 November 1872* – Mpande, Zulu King, dies in Zululand

20 November 1923 – Nadine Gordimer, SA author and recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature, is born

21 November 1986 – Leaders of the ‘independent’ homelands meet in Pretoria
