“Let us make it clear now: we are prepared to die for Zuma,” said Malema, claiming Zuma’s rights had been violated by delays in prosecuting him. “Not only that, we are prepared to take up arms and kill for Zuma.” We all support the right of Zuma to get a fair trial, but kill and try and intimidate our Judiciary?
The ANC Youth league President speech on Youth Day has clearly underlined the extend of the problems facing the ANC leadership as they try to build unity within its ranks after Polokwane.
The ANC youth league has once again demonstrated that it is led by a clique who believe that they are a law onto themselves and act as if they are untouchables. Worse still they actions gives one the impression that they are powerful enough to holding the ANC to ransom.
Malema justifies his behavior in the name of love. Love for President Jacob Zuma. Malema is prepared to go to war against all counter revolutionaries within the ANC in the name of love. What love? Who are the counter Revolutionaries in the ANC? What revolution is Malume defending?
The behavior of the youth league members cannot be ascribed to Bantu education, lack of political education, a deprived background, no this is the behavior of people one step away from been fascist thugs who believe that the grave is the final solution to all matters of disagreement.
It seems that the culture of entitlement and violence has become ingrained into our body politic. While the ANC has condemned Malems statement, it needs to go further, if it want to restore its credibility, it must expel Malema from its ranks.

Why does the ANC leadership try to defend what is indefensible? How can the ANC, who defeated apartheid and brought democracy to South Africa, tolerate one of its leaders encouraging members to take up arms and even kill for its leader? This is not the party of Tambo, Mandela and Sisulu and the ANC is deceiving itself if it thinks it carries their torch. As for Julius Malema, he should go back to school. Surely there are better, more constructive and positive ways to show your support for your leader than intimidating everyone with ill-considered threats.
But the real issue here is that time and again the ANC leadership is failing crucial leadership tests. Given the party’s electoral majority, this spells trouble.
July 25th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
The ANC is failing, full stop. If people like the ANCYL ,YCL and COSATU can openly use HATE speech with no repercussions from the ANC , then why have a constitution or Judiciary?
August 1st, 2008 at 1:41 pm
I am a ANC voter, not a member. I am very disappointed with its leadership, I mean all of them. Firstly they elect a president who has been doing funny things. He has many wives but he slept around. I hope he stopped it. Then he is in a “generally corrupt relationship” trial. They still vote for him. Now comes Malema with a “Kill for Zuma” statement, they let him keep his presidency position within the ANC youth league. Why would one support such leaders. It cleary causes suspicion on the future of the ANC leadership, constituency and governing this country in the future. It makes me wonder wether the ANC deserve to lead this country or it has to sort itself out first. I always respected ANC leaders but now its hard to. I am not in full support of President Thabo Mbeki, but to be frank, he is way better than both ANC and Youth league leaders put together. It is even more embarrasing and insulting to me the way they removed Mbeki from ANC presidency to replace him with Zuma. Not to mention being president of the country.
August 4th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
People have a right to differ with anybody, including Malema on opinion- the man also has a right to say what he feels is right- whatever that is. the real challenge though, as I see it, is for those who find him so repulsive to innitiate alternatives for the voting populace. why is that you look so much to the ANC for direction and affirmation of your beliefs? From where I’m standing, both Malema and Vavi are countering what they view as a capitalist conspiracy to stop their man from ascendig to the high office- and yes, Zuma is not the only one in his camp but he is the one who is identified as the victim of this said unbecoming political censorship. I only wonedr why Mbeki never groomed anybody totake the reigns in 2009 that he should feel theneed to stand for reelection, What was his plan? would he suffocate the democratic conduct of the establishment by hand picking his successor or would he launch a bid to alter the constitution to allow him the third term? Our information is sadly limited to the faceless sources known only to the media.
By the way; there is a course in life that I am prepared to kill and die for- would I be wrong to state that truth as Mandela did say in the rivonia trial? Shouldn’t we expect that there would be peopel who would be so passionate about one thing to kill and die for it?
dialougue is good- so lets talk
August 6th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Mr Motho, generalising about killing and dying is not good enough in this context. Malema is an idiot to say such things. He is supposed to be a leader and should know better. Next on the agenda may be YOU Mr Motho, simply because you’re a Jewish Zulu and therefore, according to the Malema’s of the world, also a “counter-revolutionary”.
My OPINION is that there will always be greedy, power-hungry, arrogant people who see an opportunity for personal gain. In SA we have serious social problems in terms of poor, unemployed and desperate masses. The Malema’s and Zuma’s of this world are like the Mugabe’s and Hitler’s who see a way to exploit (via bullshit) the people that they should be helping, by promising things to them that they know are impossible to deliver.
It seems more and more obvious that the old wisdom of politics remains (one set of bastards being replaced by a different set of bastards), and that the ANC, for all its glorious rhetoric and potential for doing things better and thereby writing REAL history, are becoming arrogant and starting to believe that democracy belongs only to them.
I understand that Ngcuka made a legal blunder early in the Zuma/Shaik issue, but the entire world can see an obvious, naked, unashamed power-play from Zuma. Let the Court decide on Zuma’s rights – that’s what Courts are there for.
What concerns me is the group around Zuma – the guys you don’t see. Like the invisible guys around Mugabe..they are the real power-hungry bastards. They’ll give Zuma some pocket money and a few females and write his speeches for him and tell him to stay out of the way while they plunder the country. Read the lyrics to Guns n Rose song “Civil War” and you’ll see a perfect summary of the current state of SA politics
August 7th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Mike is the type of guy who speaks his mind but not helpful at all the looters or plunder in any society will all ways be there, be there, wither in business or in government. The challenge we face is how to make our system and elected leaders accountable. How to ensure openness and transparency ? This is not an easy task – we should be able to vote governments in and out. This is proving difficult because of the proportional system that we have. Why does Mike and people like him not join the growing call for a change to be made to our constitution.
August 21st, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Ramo, how have you arrived at the conclusion that I do not support change? Your logic is a bit obscure to me. You generalise. One should only generalise when you must. Judge individually when you can.
The challenge of accountabilty, openness and transparency that you refer to is not new. It started hundreds of years ago. What we have in SA is cutting-edge constitutional law.
We ARE able to vote our government in and out of power. The problem does lie in accountability, I agree with you. But not ONLY the accountability of elected leaders. Accountability extends to every member of the human race.
I’m not sure what you mean by “proportional system”. Are you referring to the voting system within the ANC? Perhaps you could explain?
And our constitution is a very good one. Why does someone like Mbeki want to change a thing that is not broken simply so that he can cling to power?
Anyway, my issue is with Malema. Malema threatened me, my family, friends and every South African that does not agree with him. Who gives him that right and where is his accountability? Let him say what he said to my face. I’ll rip his eyes out. Is that helpful?
September 11th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
If Zuma is not guilty of anything, let him go to trial and prove it! Malema is an idiot, PERIOD. And to be honest, The ANC no longer stands for what it used to. The truth is they are lead by “wastes of human material”. I feel sad coz there are no parties that I personally feel are in the position to lead SA. I truly miss the 1994 ANC.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Lindi, you could not have said it better. Malema is an idiot PERIOD. I was asked whether I am voting in the next election, for what? for who? really..For the government that will put Malema as minister of finance…Vavi as governer of Reserve bank? I’d rather see it happen than be part of those who make it happen.
Quite frankly, I think South Africans should give credit where it is due. Malema is very quick to judge Thabo Mbeki and make ‘irresponsible statement’. No one has really come forward to congradulate Mbeki with what he has achieved in Zim. I mean why are ‘we’ so quick to Judge him, but so slow to give him praise? I seriously think Mbeki did a good job and he should not be treated as he has lately. Especially comments that are made my idiots such as Malema.
Let’s face it, we don’t all agree with some of Mbeki’s doings. We don’t all agree with some of the policies that came under him. But with all due respect, I would not have been where i am today if I had Malema as a president….
We need leaders, people who will take us where we need to be, not people who will take us 1 step ahead and 10 steps back.
I can’t imagine how many favors Zuma has to give to all those ‘alive snakes’ who are supporting him.
September 22nd, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Mpho i qoute from your words “we don’t all agree with some of Mbeki’s doings. We don’t all agree with some of the policies that came under him. But with all due respect, I would not have been where i am today if I had Malema as a president…”
Malema is like an angry panther send out to destroy, i mean the UN Charter states clearly about human rights, its abvious none of Malema, Vavi and so forth never came across.
The Charter states:
1.Universal respect for, and observance of, human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion.
2.To ensure, with due respect for the culture of the peoples concerned, their political, economic, social, and educational advancement, their just treatment, and their protection against abuses;
3.To develop self-government, to take due account of the political aspirations of the peoples, and to assist them in the progressive development of their free political institutions, according to the particular circumstances of each territory and its peoples and their varying stages of advancement;
4.To further international peace and security.
But we all see and hear that Malema and the rest are so not willing to take that serious. I was born here, fortunate enough to find this country out of struggle and obression. I have so much respect for those who made this wonderful South Africa happen but i can’t stand those who are not willing to make this wonderful land go even a step further.
Someone has to call Malema and the rest to order, there are million ways to resolve things but saying things that might danger our democracy is not it. I love my country and i’m not willing to let it rot like what i have seen in other African countries and all because everyone has a politic right? Not a chance, We are all free & equal, we need a leader to lead us to greener pastures not to doom.

Here is a scary thought – the only other ruling party in history to have a youth league was the Nazi’s
September 29th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Not true. The Democratic Alliance has a ‘youth league’ called DA Youth, on university campuses it’s called DASO – Democratic Alliance Student’s Organisation. Here are some links:
http://www.da.org.za/?p=347 (DA press release on Julius Malema)
http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2361048913 (DA Youth Facebook group)
http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=10294467765 (DASO at UCT)
I think political youth leagues are important…. to conscientise people, provide platform for debate and grow future political leaders. Unfortunately the purpose of the ANCYL is being rubbished by the frequently unbelievably violent words of Julius Malema.
September 29th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Lets face it there is a serious problem the ANC is facing. Julius is a embarrassment, yes, but a strong organisation can handle the Malema’s. The ANC is not strong.
There is a noting wrong with organisations having youth league and womens sections, it ensures greater participation in the political processes by important constituencies. The DA has its youth section. Labelling it Nazi does not take us anywhere. What we need to understand is that a key ANC constituency is been run by a maron. The youth league and the ANC has to address that. The question is can the ANC be able to get its house in order.
The ANC has now has given notice with the recall of Mbeki that the NEC or should we say NWC can recall a president if he does not comply with its decisions.
This new development means that the right of the voters is further weakened. What we urgently need is a new system where the president is elected by the voters and not appointed by the majority party. We need to build check and balances into our constitution so as to deal with the excess of politicians and morans like Malema’s.
That is the challenge that we face are we as civil society up to the challenge.
September 29th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I had NO idea about this… that is insane!!!!!
What do you mean when you say NWC? I’m a little out of the loop….
September 30th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
National Working committee of the ANC which is the body that runs the day to day affairs of the ANC and to whom Kgalama has to report every monday.
October 3rd, 2008 at 2:15 pm
anc lacks leaders you can not call someone a leader who speakes like this i thinhk malema is not ready to lead this youth organisation we miss the great fikile mbalula
October 7th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
I grew up loving and adoring ANC, respecting it’s members and leaders until i was also old enough to vote and i was proud of that. I can’t ignore the acheivements that it had as well as its failures however I am so devastated on what is happening in politics at the moment, the ANC decisionsn that i don’t agree with e.g. as much as i’m not a real Mbeki fan nor a Zuma but i feel the ANC should have left him to finish the term but they decided to embarass him infront of the whole entire world, i never heard any words from ANC congratulating or acknowledging what he has done for Zimbambwe coz not anyone could have done what he did it required intellectuals for a mission to be completed instead they couldn’t wait for him to get back to recall him. dissapointing!!!
October 20th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
i think is accurate for Malema to talk anything he wants to protect the President because look current situation where lekota is leading the nation so is fair enough to split beans and alert enemies about your intentions and for the record malema is straight not syndicate like Shilowa and lekota . Malema he is right and please people accept changes in our leader ship who differs from Lekota, Mabudi Seseseko etc!!!
October 30th, 2008 at 9:32 am
There is nothing we can do to change Malema. He is just an arrogant boy who does not have respect for the elders. I think he needs to refocus his ernegy into doing something positive, may go to the gym or maybe going back to his home village and ask his elders to teach him respect but it is so sad that it is impossible to teach an old dog new tricks.
October 30th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Malema is a puppet, he was hand picked by Mbalula for God sakes.I’m not expecting any miracles from him, unless he shoots himself on the foot or goes back to school (highly unlikely).
Mbeki had his flaws, granted. but Zuma has put himself under so much pressure, going around making promises both to the rich and the poor people. the truth is most people who are going to vote are not involoved in such open forums. They are sitting at home or on some street corner. One would mistake the movement with a cult, the way that the anc has bacome so intolerant of other peoples views.
Just because the anc is in trouble why should my future be in trouble???
GOD HELP US ALL
November 26th, 2008 at 10:46 am
COPE is the future people. ANC is dead!
This is a reverse saying to what Zuma said about Mbeki and now the roles have changed: “There is no point in beating a dead snake” (ANC of cause)
January 28th, 2009 at 11:10 am
People should stop picking on his education.
I’m not an ANC supporter but what really gets to me is that the ANCYL has had such a tremendous legacy of producing good leaders; Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu and Oliver Tambo to name a few………and then comes along Fikile Mbalula right from the bottom of the leadership barrel. Just when I thought leadership couldn’t get any worse, in 2008 the ANCYL decided to dig a little deeper into the barrel and that’s when they found good ‘ol Julius.
Now as for Julius, a lot can be said about that boy…..some say he was dropped on his head as a baby….some say he’s uneducated……many even say that he’s a homicidal maniac.
Accept for the latter I feel that many uneducated people, (even those dropped on their head as a baby), could still make good leaders. Leaders who are genuinely concerned about the progression of their people & country; leaders who are fair & just; leaders who abide by the rule of law and know how to deal with opposition. Let’s face it, Julius is none of those things.
Now back to education, Robert Mugabe is highly educated however his leadership in recent years has brought dismay and poverty to his country. Julius is on the other hand is uneducated and also hasn’t made a sensible statement since his appointment as leader of the ANCYL. There are uneducated swamp rats that would make better ANCYL leaders than Julius, in fact I suggest that Julius employs one to write out his speeches. So could people please stop picking on his education…..
God save our country.
February 10th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Malema’s comments were blatant. He demonstrate his love and loyalty to his Pesident Jacob Zuma. Malema can make any statement without any fear of intimidation.Thou he is not certificated, he got what it takes to be an autocatic leader if given all the responsibility. He is a role model to some of us.Viva Comrade Malema Viva!
February 18th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
I am a young lady currently studying and one of my majors is Politics and would really like to say I am am much more confused with our political system because it seems so shallow and personal power driven. I think there is more to our political system that what our parties or should I say government has percieved.

Dear Comrades
To all the South African Citizens
My Speech
The freedom that we fought so hard to win is in jeopardy. It is being threatened by corruption. Corruption is not a new problem. It’s not just a South African problem, or an African problem. It’s a human problem, & it has existed in some form in almost every society…
But while corruption is a problem we all share, here in South Africa it is crisis- a crisis that’s robbing an honest people of the opportunities they have fought for- the opportunities they deserve.
“I am not saying I’m going to change the World, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the World”
I have a beautiful vision that will help my fellow comrades in the whole of Republic of South Africa. People need to be govern by a ruling party it is just happen now that Cope is a problem because each and everyday they are recruiting more numbers of people. We need to give them their own medicine because they believe they are the true meaning of Congress of the People! Lets us look back from our History side & allocate what can be done to stop them because they are spreading like a virus? Our history says much about us, we South African we are the strong nation. We fought the apartheid system together; our leaders were killed & buried like dogs in exile. Today some people are enjoying the democratic fruits of this country while our fellow Black African had to spill their red blood in the white carpet that we are all enjoying walking on!
If some people are enjoying the democracy we have today because of the expensive blood shared of our comrades. I believe we need to change the way we treat each other, let the pain of the fellow families of the comrades who died in fighting against apartheid be our pain. African National Congress fought the system with the people. Let us fight again the corruption system with the people.

Julius Malema is a spoilt brat who does not respect his elders. his behaviour will corrupt the youth of South Africa. he should step down as the President of the ANC Youth Leage, he is rude and selfish and does not know the meaning of the word respect.
February 24th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
I hate the guy and think only about him self not the youth at large as he is suppose to. he is a spoilt brat who does not respect his elders. his behaviour will corrupt the youth of South Africa. he should step down as the President of the ANC Youth Leage, he is rude and selfish and does not know the meaning of the word respect.

Julius, Julius,Julius… As much as we the “Normal people” try so much to speak sense every day…. Julius just goes out & prove to the world that he aint that inteligent, i mean now its not a good time to be stupid, ANC is in a very uncomfortable space.
The election are coming up & ANC leadership still lets Julius Malema go out in public & joke around. I mean can’t he just matures up? & who writes his uncalled for speeches, who needs to know what socks colour Mbhazima Shilowa wore?
He is getting more funnier at a wrong time, I’m a South African citizen who wants to put her loyality on a party which makes sense or atleast try to make sense.
This is a time for the ANC to shut Malema up & Mr.Tokyo Sexwale must never ever do what he did again, trying to compare Malema with tata Nelson Mandela, that’s rather low & we actually dont care, but what we care about is….Malema is living in a different society from what tata Nelson did and we won’t stand it. We are as hot headed as Malema but not that retarded.
ANC would get a whole alot of votes if other empty vessels would just shut up.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Motho a reply to your post regarging the conduct of Malema.
‘By the way; there is a course in life that I am prepared to kill and die for- would I be wrong to state that truth as Mandela did say in the rivonia trial? Shouldn’t we expect that there would be people who would be so passionate about one thing to kill and die for it? ‘
When one holds a position of power such as Malema does others look toward him for wisdom, by openly speaking of taking up arms and killing for Zuma he is encouraging the younger generation to solve problems through violence. He is using hate speech and abusing his power. The youth are the future and I fear for this future if Malema is himself one of the key people shaping it.
Most of us can agree we are passionate about at least one thing in our lives but do we live for it and create positive ways of fighting for it. Or do we do the opposite being prepared to die for it, encouraging violence and leaving the world in a worse place than we found it.
More recently Malema has made a statement about the women who accused Zuma of rape having enjoyed the experience. Not only does this statement belittle the issue of rape it also places women as second classes citizens who dont deserve the right to speak up when harm has been done therefore undeserving of the equal rights in all aspects of society which we have fought so hard to obtain.
A President with multiple wives and a young ‘leader’ who is allowed to speak as he likes resulting in the occassional slap on the wrist.
Promising future….

Malema stinks!!!
